Engine manufacturers have spent years working around the limitations of the camshaft. The results are myriad proprietary solutions. Honda has VTEC, short for Variable Valve Timing and Lift Electronic Control. Toyota has VVT-i. BMW has VANOS, Ford has VCT. All these systems provide ways to adjust the valve action to some degree. VANOS works by allowing the camshaft to slightly rotate a few degrees relative to its normal timing, similar to moving a tooth or two on the timing chain. While these systems do work, they tend to be mechanically complex, and expensive to repair.
ATLANTA – Led by a second-half equalizer from Roland Lamah, FC Cincinnati recorded their first point in their inaugural MLS season by playing Atlanta United to a 1-1 draw at Mercedes-Benz Stadium on Sunday night.
A hammer drill often looks like a traditional drill. That’s because, except for one notable function, it basically is a traditional drill. However, in addition to the standard drill’s normal spinning action, the hammer drill adds, well, some sweet hammering action as well. It uses two ridged, interlocking discs to apply a pounding force to the spinning drill. As the two discs move against each other, the ridges ride up and down, essentially creating a hammer and anvil effect inside the hammer drill. This causes the chuck to move back and forth, which provides a short, rapid hammering action to the bit.
And now new Browns coach Freddie Kitchens has a weapon to deploy for Mayfield, the No. 1 overall pick last year who had a dazzling debut season in which he set the NFL record for touchdown passes by a rookie.
This aluminum tread plate, two-piece sliding hosebed cover on a KME Predator pumper permits easy access into the hosebed area. Note the latch mechanism at the center of the rear cover.

You are already seeing the effects of over-regulation. Take the CAFE standards for example. Some idiot panel of GS-14 government bureaucrats, and their associated special interest and high $ contractors, whom have never built anything in their life, and whom never took a physics class, “determines” that the fleet average mileage must be 35 MPG by, say, year 2020. (All of this studied at HUGE taxpayer expense) Well, its simple physics folks. Heavy thing hits light thing, light thing goes flying in a different direction very fast with hurt people on the inside. To meet thees standards the mass of the vehicle must be reduced as much as possible. Yes, there are better materials and “crumple zones” – but in the end the cars end up lighter. That’s all well and good — if only you could reduce the mass of the 18 wheel trucks, guard rails, and trees that cars tend to run into. So, as a direct result of government regulation you now have more highway deaths, all for some marginal MPG improvements see:
With that little bit of negativity out of the way, letâs get back to what an entertaining engine the Duke has. The torque curve has 40 lb-ft available at around 2600 rpm and reaches its peak 59.9 lb-ft at 6,600 rpm. The hp curve is pretty dang linear and climbs relentlessly to its peak of 96.2 hp at the 9,000 rev limit. In between, the fuel metering is spot on with almost no abruptness in any throttle transitions. This holds true in both street and sport modes. If the bellow of the engine on the gas isnât enough for you, wait until you roll off the throttle to tap down through the gears. Here, the engine gives a race-bike-like brat-patta-patta-pat-pat that just screams high-performance. Consider the KTMâs claimed weight without gas being 372.6 lb., add in roughly 26 lb. for fuel, and youâre looking at 96 horses driving a roughly 400-lb. motorcycle! (Unfortunately, due to a technical glitch, I was unable to get the actual weight of the 790, so youâll have to wait until the inevitable shootout to get the MO-certified weight.) Â
Awesome article! I actually went to school with Brian and was in his class where he made the engine. very cool design and way cool to see it featured on hackaday!!!
His scholarship offer from coach James Franklin’s staff only came because the Lions lost their original quarterback commitment, Brandon Wimbush, to Notre Dame.
All bmw valvetronic engines regulate airflow via valve lift, in normal operation the throttle body is full open at all times, only when a problem is detected in the valvetronic actuator/sensors then the car reverts to using the throttle.
What about it? What about the inefficient, loud, polluting, dirty, heavy, complex and unreliable ICEs?
